Brazil’s First Anti-Corruption Compliance Book Published

Author: Matteson Ellis

A group of Brazilian and foreign attorneys, scholars, and public officials have published the first anti-corruption compliance book in Brazil, entitled Temas de Anticorrupção e Compliance (Themes of Anti-Corruption and Compliance). The book has chapters written in English and Portuguese. It was coordinated by the Anti-Corruption and Compliance Committee of IBRADEMP (the Brazilian Institute of Business Law). The leading contributors were Brazilian lawyers Alessandra Del Debbio, Bruno Maeda, and Carlos Henrique Ayres.

Chapters in the book cover numerous areas of anti-corruption compliance, including gifts & hospitality, third party due diligence, and international law developments. Non-Brazilian authors include former Deputy Attorney General of the United States Paul McNulty; The World Bank’s Evaluation & Suspension Officer Pascale DuBois; and FCPAméricas Editor Matteson Ellis.

Coordinator Carlos Ayres told FCPAméricas:

Our idea with this book, which is the first one dedicated to anti-corruption compliance published in Brazil, is to foster the discussion about the subject in the country. We are very glad to have the participation of top local and foreign authors, which will certainly make the book a useful and reliable source of information for compliance practitioners.

Coordinator Bruno Maeda added:

The area of anti-corruption law has developed very significantly in Brazil in the past years. This resulted in the creation of the Anti-Corruption and Compliance Committee of IBRADEMP and now the publication of this book. We hope that the book contributes to the continued advancement of anti-corruption law and efforts in Brazil.
